Why race? A 9709 paper gives you roughly 1.5 minutes per mark. If a one-step move eats 90 seconds, the 5-mark question at the end never gets finished. You already know quadratics. This is about making the basic moves cost you almost nothing, so your time goes where the marks are hard to get.
